This week is a busy week! The Saint Xavier students are here Monday and Wednesday to help during Math class. Today we had an Open House for potential new families; in fact, a new girl will become part of our class on Monday! This brings our total to 20 students! Ernst and Young volunteers will be here Friday morning to do some activities with us. Last year, Ernst and Young donated iPads to our school. We are very thankful for their time and generosity!
In Math, we worked on comparing numbers (<, >, =). We've also been working determining whether numbers are even or odd. This Friday, the students will have their very first MATH TEST! I will be sending home a review Wednesday.
In Superkids, we are working on short, long, and silent vowels. The students are catching on, but could still use more practice with it. During center work, students are expected to complete a workbook page or two; if they do not finish during school, they should bring it home for homework. I noticed some students have not completed some pages, so we worked on catching up today and will continue tomorrow. If you could please help check their Superkids workbook, I'd greatly appreciate it! They should have pages 1-24 completed.
In Religion, we are talking about God the Creator and how everything he created was GOOD! We continue to listen to relaxing music during our lesson, which is one of my favorite parts of the day! It's so calm and peaceful.
Today, we had Computers and Library. Students were able to check out a library book. They are due next Tuesday, September 23rd. During Computers, students were able to play an educational game on www.abcya.com. This website has games such as sight word bingo in English and Spanish, keyboarding, addition/subtraction, number grids, and create your own word search or crossword. (I've included a link at the bottom.)
We have been working on our AimsWeb assessments, which is standardized test for Math and Reading. They assess students' knowledge of Math facts and concepts and Reading fluency and comprehension. We take these assessments in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. I use this data for our learning center groups. I will share the results with you during Parent Teacher Conferences.
Friday is our Spaghetti Dinner from 6:00-8:00 in Hardiman Hall. If families purchase tickets before Thursday, September 18, students will receive 2 out of uniforms for 9/24 & 9/25. Also, there will be an extra surprise for the homeroom with the highest attendance! (I have a RSVP link under the "Blog" tab.)
Thank you for visiting our webpage and all that you do! Have a great night!
