Yesterday the students took their first Math test in 2nd grade! They did an amazing job! I'm so proud of how well they focused and worked. Their tests will be going home with them today. You will see skills colored in green or yellow. Green means the students understand that concept, yellow means they're still working on it. Please sign their test and return it to school on Monday so I can display their success in the hall! 😃👍⭐️🎉✏️💯

On Wednesday, we had a Math Game Day! Students should be playing Math games at least 60 minutes weekly in order to help them become more fluent and confident in their math skills. They played the Exchange Game. Students rolled two dice and added that amount of pennies. Whenever possible, students would exchange pennies for nickels or dimes. The player with the most dimes wins the game! This game helps students recognize coin equivalencies.
While learning all about 2nd grade, we stopped to take a quick photo! Let's make it a great year together! :-)
Happy Mother's Day to all!!! I hope you had a wonderful day and were showered with love and relaxation! Thank you for all that you do! Mothers are truly special people!
Through the new Everyday Math program, students are now able to complete Math activities digitally. The 2nd graders worked with partners and iPads to solve their Open Response assignment. They were asked to create a garden that was a quadrilateral and had 2-4 right angles. The students really had to focus on the characteristics of each term.
At Reading Night, we learned about the game BANG!, which helps students practice reading words. This is a great game to help students recognize their sight words, and even Spelling words. All you need are word cards and a container, super simple! Players take turns pulling a word card from the container and reading it. If they read it correctly, they get to keep the card; if not, they have to put it back. Watch out for the BANG! card though. If you pull a BANG! card, you have to return all of your cards to the container and start over. We have incorporated this game into our Reading centers, recess, or other free time. The students really enjoy this game! I recommend trying it at home! (I use 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade sight word lists.)
After a long, cold Chicago winter, it was so great to finally get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. We took a walk and played on the playground with 5th grade. The kids were so excited to be outside, as were the teachers! :-)
Students have been learning about various tools and units they can use to measure. They were able to explore different lengths around the classroom.
There will be NO SCHOOL WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7th due to the predicted cold weather. I hope everyone enjoys their day off. Stay safe and WARM! ❄⛄
